South Africa is being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic. Thousands of children are orphaned when they lose their parents to AIDS. All alone they are left to face life without any parental guidance and help. The oldest child in the family becomes the "parent" as the little family tries to cope with finding food, clothes and other basic items. They are too young to work, relatives will not take them in so they exist together as best they can.
Hope For Humanity is a American organization that partners with local leaders in South Africa to help these orphans. A community center has been established called Nhlengelo. The children come to Nhlengelo after school each day for a hot meal, help with their homework and a chance to play and experience a little bit of the childhood they are losing.
Maluti Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the Kingdom of Lesthoto. Over 75% of the patients treated at this hospital have AIDS. The hospital operates a primary school for the children of the workers and for the AIDS orphans they serve. There are too many children for the tiny school. Workers are holding classes in abandoned container cars (boxcars) so they don't have to turn children away.
